Cheers! We are Now Open

The Lowther Arms is a traditional country pub in the heart of Mawbray village, close to the sea on the Solway Plain in north-west Cumbria. Set in peaceful countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Buffer Zone, we are surrounded by stunning views of the Lakes and Scotland.

Come and enjoy our warm and friendly welcome, real ale, good beer and great pub food.

The Lowther Arms is a cooperative and community-owned pub, saved from permanent closure and conversion to a house by the local community and over 300 shareholders.

Re-opened in June 2021, it is more than a pub – we offer a comfortable place to have a drink, morning coffee, enjoy a meal, meet with friends, or simply a quiet corner to read in. Whether you are a local, a visitor, walker, or cyclist, come and relax in our lovely pub with its beer garden and stunning views of the Lake District.

Our 4-pitch caravan site will soon be ready for you to stop over – we have 3 pitches for tourers and motorhomes, pod, plus camping and Motorhome Aire.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar and beer garden.

We look forward to seeing you!

Next time you’re on the Cumbrian coast, try lunch at the Lowther-Arms-Mawbray. It’s a lovely sunny pub that the community there has rallied round and saved. It’s just reopened. A lovely Sunday dinner. And a great atmosphere and spirit. Top beer. Swallows flying around all over the place. Watch this from 16 min to understand the back story. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000xhqc/morning-live-series-3-02072021. It’s been a phenomenal effort and now needs supporting. Bring your bike too. It’s next to the recently extended West Cumbrian cycle way. I’ll be back. ... See MoreSee Less
